Rabbi Steven Schwartz has served Beth El Congregation since 1998, currently filling the role of Senior Rabbi. He is a graduate of Brandeis University, received a master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland and was ordained as a rabbi from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Rabbi Schwartz is a member of the Board of Directors of The Institute for Christian and Jewish studies and is the community-at-large member of the Johns Hopkins Internal Review Board. He is also a past president of the Baltimore Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Schwartz, his wife Rebecca and their three children reside in Owings Mills.
Rabbi Dana Saroken joined Beth El Congregation in 2007 as its assistant rabbi and the first female rabbi in the history of the congregation. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Arizona's Honors Program with a bachelor of arts degree on political science and Jewish studies and was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 2004. Before coming to Pikesville and joining Beth El with her husband, Rafi Rone, and their two children, Rabbi Saroken worked as the Educational Director for the international organization Up With People, the Director of the Jewish Student Association at Georgetown University and as the assistant rabbi at New City Jewish Center in New York City.
Cantor Thom King has been the cantor of Beth El Congregation since 1997. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the Hart School of Music, where he studied voice and hazzanut under the tutelage of renowned Cantor Arthur Koret, and is a commissioned member of the Cantors Assembly. Besides performing internationally in cantorial concerts, recitals, symphony concerts and opera, including appearances at Carnegie Hall and El Palacio dellas Bella Artes in Mexico, Cantor King can be heard on "Thom King Sings Michael Isaacson," a CD of contemporary Jewish music. He is also a founder and director of Beth El Congregation's adult and junior choirs. Cantor King, his wife Shazy (who is also a cantor) and their three daughters reside in Pikesville. Rabbi Emeritus Mark Loeb served Beth El from 1976 to 2008, first as Assistant Rabbi and then as Senior Rabbi. He holds a bachelor’s degree in literature and history and a master’s degree in Hebrew literature as well as rabbinical ordination. He has been active for many years on the national level in matters of social and interfaith rabbinic concern. Among other roles, he has served as National Chair of MAZON - A Jewish Response to Hunger, as well as a past National Program Chair of the Christian-Jewish Workshop. Locally, he has served as Past President of the Baltimore Board of Rabbis and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Baltimore Hebrew University. He is also a founding member of the Institute for Christian-Jewish Studies. Among his personal interests are opera, travel, graphic arts and professional wrestling. Rabbi Loeb resides in Pikesville.
