This is the season for dedications and rededications. Over 2,000
years ago, at this time, a small group of faithful Jews stood up to
the Selucids who were trying to Hellenize the Jewish people and
make them more like the Greeks. Against all odds, this band of Jews was
able to defeat one of the mightiest armies. They drove the Greeks out of
Israel, they reclaimed and rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem.
In this spirit, we too will have a re-dedication ceremony, not for the
Temple, but for our sacred books. Through another generous gift from Dr.
Sheldon and Dr. Arlene Bearman our congregation has acquired a new
Torah Readings for Weekdays book. This gift was given in memory of their
beloved parents, Joshua & Doris Bearman and Emanuel & Hilda Erlich.
These beautiful books will be dedicated on the 5th day of Chanukah –
On Tuesday, December 15 at the morning minyan that will begin at 7:45
a.m. A special breakfast will follow.
If you would like to dedicate one of the Torah reading books in honor
or in memory of a loved one, and to use the book that morning, please click here to download a form. The cost for these dedications will be $25. |
