Women in the Tanakh

While looking at examples of women in the Bible such as Eve, Miriam, Dinah, and others, we will explore themes of power, leadership, and family relationships with facilitator Shira Zeliger.  We will see portrayals of women in the Tanakh and their positive and negative perceptions as presented through the lens of classical, medieval, and modern commentary.  We will also discuss the implications of female Biblical characters living in a patriarchal society and being interpreted through a patriarchal lens. $40 Beth El members, $50 non-members.

Shira Zeliger received her BA and B.Ed. Degrees at York  University.  She received a dual MA at Brandeis University.  She has taught at the Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community School and the Melton School for Adult Jewish Learning.
