Cantor Thom King

Cantor Thom King is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, where he studied voice and hazzanut under the tutelage of renowned Cantor Arthur Koret. While successfully pursuing a career in opera and theater, he also served as Cantor in several Connecticut congregations, including the United Jewish Center in Danbury and Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford. After receiving his commission from the Cantors Assembly in 1997, Cantor King was hand-picked by Rabbi Mark Loeb to succeed Cantor Saul Hammerman as Beth El’s Cantor. He has performed internationally in cantorial concerts, recitals, symphony concerts, and opera, and has appeared in Carnegie Hall, El Palacio De Las Bella Artes in Mexico City, and the Montreal Symphony, as well as opera companies throughout the United States. Cantor King can be heard on “Thom King Sings Michael Isaacson”, a recording of contemporary Jewish music, and is the founder and director of the Beth El Choir. He was recently honored to participate in a program entitled “Yiddishe Nightingale” directed by the renowned Yiddish expert Zalman Mlotek, and has also served on the executive Committee of the Cantors Assembly. Cantor King and his wife Shazy have three daughters, and two adorable grandchildren.
