Tisha B’Av is a day of mourning in the Jewish calendar observed on the ninth day of the month of Av. It commemorates numerous tragedies that befell the Jewish people throughout history, specifically the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem. Our Sages teach us that the Temples were destroyed because of baseless hatred; this sin caused the Temple to be destroyed and our people sent into exile which continues to this day.

Tisha B’Av serves as a reminder of the suffering and persecution endured by the Jewish people and encourages reflection and repentance. At the same time, Tisha B’Av also represents a hopeful future as many Jews pray for the rebuilding of the Temple and the ultimate redemption of the Jewish people. May it occur speedily in our day!
